2010 Annual Report
In 2010, the NYISO kept the power flowing through one of the hottest months on record as heat waves made July a record-setting month for electricity use. Power system reliability is the result of careful resource planning, top-notch operator training and constant vigilance every hour of every day, year after year. New York's competitive wholesale markets continue to add resources to sustain and enhance reliability. Since 2000, markets have encouraged the development of demand-side programs that reduce peak demand and provide thousands of megawatts of alternatives to traditional resources. In addition, more than 8,600 megawatts of cleaner, more efficient generation have been added and nearly 1,300 megawatts new interstate transmission capability has been built to bring power to New York.
