The NYISO Manuals are a set of documents that specify and help explain the procedures and policies that will be used to operate the bulk power system of the New York Control Area and to conduct the New York Wholesale Electricity Market. The manuals have been categorized into four principal subject headings:

 Day Ahead Scheduling
 This manual describes the Day-Ahead scheduling process including an overall time line; an overview of functions and the bid/post process; Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC); the interface between the Day-Ahead and the Dispatch Day processes; posting of schedules; load forecasting; reliability forecasting; interchange coordination; and incremental losses calculations.

 Direct Generator Communications
 This manual describes methods allowing generation plants to optionally communicate directly with the NYISO as a result of the Direct Generator Communications Project. The purpose of this document is to describe the facilities available to generation owners, to outline the Initial Installation Procedure, and to document Operational Procedures for generator communications facilities.

 Emergency Operations
 This manual defines operating criteria, monitoring, communications systems, reporting, and corrective actions to be taken under the Alert, Major Emergency, and Restorative States. Problems may include transmission rating violations, high or low voltage, operating reserve deficiencies, stability limit violations, low frequency, over-generation, major power failure, or loss of control center operation.
