Greening The Grid
Renewable Power Resources Growing
More than 1,700 megawatts of wind generation were in operation in New York State by April 2014. In addition, wind projects totaling over 2,000 megawatts have been proposed for grid connection. In 2010, the NYISO completed a wind generation study, Growing Wind, which provides extensive background information.
Power Plant Emission Rates Declining
Power plant emission rates in New York State have sharply declined since 2000. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) have seen the most dramatic reduction, dropping 94 percent over the 2000-2013 period, while nitrogen oxides (NOx) rates dropped by 81 percent and carbon dioxide (CO2) rates dropped by 41 percent. See the briefing paper, New York State Power Plant Emissions: 2000-2013, for more information.
