Greening The Grid
Renewable Power Resources Growing
TMore than 1,300 megawatts of wind generation were in operation in New York State by April 2011. In addition, wind projects totaling over 7,000 megawatts have been proposed for grid connection. See the NYISO’s 2010 wind generation study, Growing Wind, for more information.
Power Plant Emission Rates Declining
Power plant emission rates in New York State have sharply declined since 1999. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) have seen the most dramatic reduction, dropping 82 percent over the 1999-2009 period, while nitrogen oxides (NOx) rates dropped by 62 percent and carbon dioxide (CO2) rates dropped by 31 percent. See the briefing paper, New York State Power Plant Emissions: 1999-2009, for more information.
