Along a 55-mile stretch of right-of-way in New York’s Hudson Valley, workers have been busy since spring replacing transmission towers from the 1930’s with 90-foot-tall, galvanized steel poles that on clear days blend into a blue sky. The AC Transmission project will be the biggest upgrade of transmission lines in the state in 40 years, designed to help New York achieve its clean-energy goals — 70 percent reliance on renewables in 10 years and zero carbon emissions in 20.
