VIDEO: People Who Power New York: "Fostering a Spirit of Giving"
One of the things that distinguishes the NYISO is our culture of giving. Serving New Yorkers with reliable power is part of our mission, but going beyond that is something HR Manager Sarah Knox knows a lot about.
Sarah helps to lead the NYISO’s Charitable Giving activities, which provide opportunities for employees to volunteer with groups like Habitat for Humanity, the Regional Food Bank, the YMCA, and the United Way. Employees also regularly participate in blood drives for the Red Cross and a variety of local volunteer and fundraising efforts.
Giving back is personal for Sarah. As a breast cancer survivor, she raised more than $2,000 running the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. That race started Sarah on a new course to help those in need.
It’s not just people who benefit from her generosity. Sarah and her husband have fostered many dogs over the years through the Homeward Bound Dog Rescue. Homeward Bound provides loving environments for plenty of pups waiting to be placed into their forever homes.
Sarah says she’s just one of many people at the NYISO donating their time to good causes.
“There are a lot of people doing a lot of the good things here,” she said.
