VIDEO: Reliably Greening New York's Power Grid and the Role of Markets

October 8, 2021

Reaching a 100% emission-free grid by 2040 is an ambitious goal; the challenge of our lifetime.

And it’s one we’re working on every day: keeping our system reliable as we transition to an energy grid based on renewable resources. To address this, we’ll need significant investment in transmission infrastructure to carry power across the state, as well as smaller distributed energy installations and emerging technologies like carbon capture, and green hydrogen.

To find out more about this transition, and the role that competitive electric markets will play in providing an investment incentive to developers and investors that New York’s green economy is open for business, watch this video:

We are an independent, not-for-profit corporation responsible for operating the state’s bulk electricity grid, administering New York’s competitive wholesale electricity markets, conducting comprehensive long-term planning for the state’s electric power system, and advancing the technological infrastructure of the electric system serving the Empire State.
