VIDEO: People Who Power New York: "Market design is pivotal in increasing clean energy on the grid."

June 24, 2020

Born in India, Pallavi Jain was destined to be an engineer.

“My dad is an engineer, my uncle is an engineer, my grandfather is an engineer,” she recalled. “The fact that electrical engineering was the hardest branch is what made me select it.” She moved to Arizona State to get her master’s degree. It was there where she took a course on “energy markets,” a world she had never heard of. She was hooked.

Today, she is one of our energy market design specialists. Pallavi helps find new ways to increase the use of renewable resources and energy storage resources on the New York energy grid and in the wholesale electricity markets. “We have all of these new resources,” she said. “We’re trying to come up with creative solutions for these resources to participate in our markets. This is a great time to be in the industry.”

Watch Pallavi's story now.
