Diana Ortiz is no stranger to hard work. Born in Brooklyn, her parents grew up on a farm in El Campo, Puerto Rico, where families lived off the land.
Growing up, Diana was drawn to psychology and “figuring people out.” She wound up completing her MIS (Management Information Systems) degree at SUNY Albany, juggling the difficulties of being a student while also a single mother raising a two-year-old son. Her first job as a telecommunications specialist required her to be a “jane of all trades,” driving a truck and wearing a tool belt as she ran cables and jacks installing phone systems for offices.
She joined the NYISO 16 years ago, and today is a lead stakeholder services representative. In this role, she serves as an ambassador of sorts for the NYISO, answering questions from stakeholders and potential participants in our wholesale electricity markets. She loves how each day brings a new challenge, a new problem to solve, and the opportunity to learn something new. “I work for a great organization,” she says. “It really just challenges you to continue learning and growing, and that’s been the draw for me.”
