DATASHEET: Key Takeaways of NYISO Climate Change Study: Preparing the Grid for a Changing Climate
We recently released Phase II of a report that looks at the potential impacts on the New York energy grid from a changing climate, combined with the expected transition to a zero-emission grid by 2040.
The report, “Climate Change Impact and Resiliency: An Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Power System Reliability in New York State,” used a combination of load scenarios and physical disruptions of resources and transmission to determine the best steps to prepare for what is to come.
The report presents a number of findings, including the need for battery storage, new transmission; and dispatchable, emission-free resources. New and existing technologies will be necessary to fill voids in renewable energy output, maximize access to renewables, and balance intermittency on the grid.
