At Climate Week NYC, NYISO Leaders Talk Reliability, Affordability & the Renewable Transition

October 6, 2026

NYISO leaders recently participated in Climate Week NYC events, joining policymakers, business leaders, investors, and energy experts for discussions on reliability in the context of the renewable transition.

Climate Week NYC is one of the world's largest climate-focused gatherings. This year's "Energy. Impact. Action." theme emphasized the need for collaboration and practical solutions to navigate economic uncertainty, technological change, and climate-related risks.

Throughout the week, NYISO leaders contributed to conversations examining some of the most pressing issues facing the electric industry, including reliability, resource adequacy, emerging technologies, and the investments needed to support a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

President and CEO Rich Dewey participated in a fireside chat at the Nuclear Symposium 2026, hosted by the New York City Bar Association, with Heatmap news correspondent Alexander Kaufman on how wholesale electricity markets can help attract resources necessary to reliably transition the grid.

Executive Vice President & COO Emilie Nelson participated in a panel discussion at the Consulate General of Sweden on the importance of pursuing an all-of-the-above approach to building a reliable energy system.

“In order for the energy transition to be successful, we also need reliability and affordability as we transition to cleaner new technologies,” Nelson said in her remarks. “Certainly, the transition can be messy, there can be trade-offs, and things can happen imperfectly. But ultimately, you can’t compromise any of these elements for transition to be successful.”
